It appears that many
are fascinated with Genesis.
And I can’t understand why
they race to the past.
They claim to believe we’re created, born, live
and after this life, the scheduled meeting.
A line. Start, then finish.
So shouldn’t they look ahead?
Or be present?
Or both?
How can they complete the circle of their belief
if they stop
and walk backwards?
A circle moves.
A loop must be traveled.
Standing at the beginning, facing backward,
is not a circle.
It is a wall.
But walls made of pages,
are built by those who believe,
everything is already built.
That the first light came with a last page.
That moving forward is
only walking toward a door marked closed.
To keep reading only the beginning
is to agree with the ending.
What if we wrote a new sentence?
What if we are not finished?
What if the book didn’t end?
What if the hand that began the work
still waits for us to continue it?
What if progress is not an exit from belief,
but the next line?
